Pour Horse Pottery is the official name.

Pour Horse Pottery began in 1995, with the introduction of Saucy.  She was a little Suffolk mare, sculpted by Kristina Lucas, and produced in earthenware by Joan Berkwitz. Saucy proved popular, and was soon followed by Owynn, Bressay, and Suspiro, which kept Joan and Kristina quite busy.  Suspiro, the Spanish horse, was a turning point for the pottery, and it was shortly there-after when they stopped referring to the pottery as "Poor House Pottery". Suspiro brought over many skeptical china heads to become fans of the pottery, proving that Pour Horse was a viable manufacturer with the ability to produce high quality horses for the collectors market. With each new piece produced, new techniques and improvements are made, from new ways to make production molds to improvements in the crispness of detail.

Joan currently works alone, although she often calls on her friends to go to lunch or help with various projects. She grew up in the model horse hobby, and has learned to forecast what the hobby is interested in from her years of involvement.  She relies on expert advice from many individuals, who have different viewpoints and ideas, and with this advice she pushes the borders of decoration and design. Many new decorative techniques have come from this interchange, and the style that has resulted sets trends in the hobby. She also receives many opinions, although those beginning with "Let's go to lunch" and ending with "I'm paying" get the most popular reception.

Pour Horse Pottery is situated in Carlsbad, California, just two blocks from the Pacific Ocean, and just steps away from Joan's back door.
